Matthew Young’s Eagle Scout Project!
Donation protected
Hi there! My name is Matthew, and as of October 22nd, I completed the physical portion of my Eagle Scout project!
My school, Bishop England High School, has a Special Ed program known as the ‘Options Program’; a program for those with learning disabilities to learn life lessons and fundamental skills, kinda like Scouts! The program uses a field outside the school for daily activities (kickball, etc.) with a pretty little garden nearby that the members planted. Given the blistering Carolina heat, and after having talked to the Options’ director and my school’s president, we decided that a 9’x9’ patio in the shade of an old oak would make a relieving and cooling addition to the Options’ garden.
So, between Oct. 21 and 22, that’s exactly what we did!, and we constructed a 9’x9’ brick patio, using beautiful and timeless Charleston Battery Benches to cap it off and give the Options buddies a place to sit and relax. Frankly, the patio makes a wonderful place for anyone to rest waiting to get picked up or gather with friends, kick back, or read a book shielded by the shades of trees.
Now, this is a little unorthodox, but I need y’all’s help and donations. My 18th Birthday is on November 8 and, given the close deadline we’ve had to get creative with the order that we’re doing things, and that includes fundraising. On the bright side, we know exactly how much we need to raise (given we know exactly how much the project costed!) I would be eternally grateful for y’all’s support, (whether it be spiritual or, especially in this case, fiscal!) and you have my everlasting thanks and appreciation.
Yours in Scouting,
Matthew Young, Troop 519, Eagle Candidate 2023
