Matthew Wallace's Eagle Project
Donation protected
My name is Matthew Wallace, and I am a Life Scout in Boy Scout troop 233 and a member of Civil Air Patrol Squadron 36. I am trying to earn my Eagle Scout rank, the highest award in scouting, which requires performing a service project for a community organization to demonstrate and hone one's leadership, organization and teamwork skills. Achieving this award is important to me not only because it symbolizes the culmination of my efforts in scouting but also because the award will help me achieve my dream of attending the Airforce Academy.
Civil Air Patrol is an organization that performs various crucial services for the community, including search and rescue, disaster relief, airborne photography of critical infrastructure, and a cadet program that helps train and prepare young teens and adults to be leaders and pioneers.
My project is to build a pergola with lighting over a table in front of my Civil Air Patrol Squadron's building at Reid Hillview Airport to provide shade during the day and light during the night outside the squadron building. The pergola is needed because the squadron building only has two rooms that can consistently be used for lessons and operations, which frequently causes concurrent activities to interfere. As a result, squadron activities are often pushed outside the building where there is no quality meeting place.
