Matthew Hathaway was a 16-year-old boy, who lost his life on November 8, 2020, to a rare children’s cancer, Ewing Sarcoma. He was diagnosed at age 13 and for over 2 ½ years underwent many grueling treatments to battle this disease.
Matthew was kind, humble and strong. He lived his life with integrity and passion and had a will incomparable. Matthew was an inspiration to his family, friends, and teammates. His drive to work hard for what he wanted and determination to be the best he could be, helped him through the most difficult time of his life. Most of all, Matthew was a funny, kindhearted boy, who left an impression on all who knew him. It is our hope his legacy of kindness and compassion will continue through the actions of others.
Matthew’s family would like to continue his legacy by supporting other children who have also faced adversity in their life by creating a scholarship fund, as well as a onetime contribution to the Commack High School Athletic department.
