Hi! We are a group of college students trying to help our friend's (Belén) family from Paraguay. Recently, Belén’s brother, Matias, who is 4 years old was hospitalized because he was feeling very weak and had a fever going on for a couple of days. He was diagnosed with anemia and was treated for it at the local hospital in Tobati, Paraguay. Matias seemed not to do better after a couple of weeks. Desperately, looking for more concrete answers, Belen's family decided to take him to a private hospital at the capital of Paraguay, Asuncion. Matias' mother could not travel with him to the capital because she has a 6-month-old boy to take care of, so her dad took Matias to the hospital at the capital. At this hospital, the doctors said that Matias needed a bone marrow test to confirm the cause of these symptoms. The test itself was costly, but Matias has finally been diagnosed with leukemia and has to start a 3-year long treatment. The doctors say it’s curable and we believe that he and his family will fight and get through this. He needs his family’s support and time, and the least of their worries should be the costs of the treatment. Belén’s dad is their only source of income and he’s currently not working to be with Matias. This is why we decided to create this fundraiser to help support Belén and her family, financially.

Hola! Somos un grupo de estudiantes universitarios intentando ayudar a la familia de nuestra amiga Belén de Paraguay. Recientemente, el hermano de Belén, Matías, quien tiene 4 años de edad fue hospitalizado ya que se sentía muy débil y había tenido fiebre por muchos días. Matías fue diagnosticado con anemia y recibió tratamiento para ello en el hospital local de Tobatí, Paraguay. Habían pasado muchas semanas y parecía que él no mejoraba. Su familia buscaban desesperadamente respuestas más concretas es por eso que decidieron llevarlo a un hospital privado de la capital de Paraguay, Asunción. La mamá de Matías no pudo viajar con él a la capital porque tiene un bebé de 6 meses que también tiene que cuidar, entonces su papá lo acompañó al hospital. En este hospital, los doctores dijeron que Matías necesitaba un examén de médula ósea para confirmar la causa de estos síntomas. El exámen es muy costoso pero Matías finalmente fue diagnosticado con leucemia y tiene que empezar un tratamiento de tres años. Los doctores dicen que es curable y nosotros creemos que él y su familia van a luchar y salir de esta. Matías necesita el apoyo y el tiempo de su familia, y el costo del tratamiento no debería ser una preocupación. El papá de Belén es la única fuente de ingreso de la familia y él no está trabajando actualmente por estar con Matías. Por eso es que decidimos empezar a recaudar dinero para ayudarle a Belén a apoyar a su familia economicamente.
