Hi, my name is Mathew Reis, and I’m a Life Scout working toward earning my Eagle Scout rank in Center Moriches, NY. For my Eagle Scout project, I’ve partnered with IGHL (Independent Group Home Living), a nonprofit that provides housing, therapy, and compassionate care for adults with developmental disabilities.
IGHL is currently building a new group home at 160 Gerard Road in Patchogue, NY, which will soon become home to 13 residents. For many of them, swing therapy is an essential part of their daily routine. It’s not just recreational—it’s therapeutic, providing both physical movement and sensory relief that helps improve their emotional and mental well-being.
To support these incredible individuals, I am leading a project to build a two-set swing set at the new house, along with fall-protective safety flooring to make the space accessible and secure for all users.
Thanks to troop and familial support, I’ve already received donations of tools like:
- The Swing Set
- Power Tools
- Post-Hole Diggers
- Metal Rakes
- Wrenches and Socket Sets
- Shovels
- A Mixing Hoe
However, I still need to raise $1,700 to cover the cost of:
- Fall-protective flooring
- Exterior-grade wood for the frame and safety trim
Any donation—no matter how small—will bring us one step closer to giving these residents a safe, joyful, and healing outdoor space. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page with friends and family would mean the world to me and to the future residents of the Gerard Road home.
Thank you so much for your support!
