Matcham Memorial Hall 2025 Renovation Fund
Donation protected
Matcham Hall needs you! We have a major issue with the floor - it basically needs replacing. If we do not replace it - the hall will become unusable in the coming months.
This year marks 110 years since Matcham Hall was gifted to the Matcham Holgate community to honour the local residents who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the first world war. Many may not be aware that the Hall is 'owned by the community' - each valley home owner owns 1/689 of the Hall!
The Hall has played a pivotal role in the community hosting Anzac Day memorials every year (except Covid), school dances, birthdays, weddings, funerals and everything in-between! It continues to be a focal point for local activities, managed by a small group of local volunteers.
As we embark on our 110 year the hall is facing a number of serious maintenance challenges. The most important being the floor! After a century of use the beams holding the floor up need to be replaced. Those beams in turn are 'balanced' on stacked rocks as footings. We need to lift the floor, build proper 'stumps' or small brick pillars and replace the beams and flooring.
This is not an optional exercise - if we don't do it in 2025 we will likely not have a useable hall in 2026. Whilst we are also exploring council, state and federal grants - most need to be matched 50:50 with local funds.
Hence reaching out to the wonderful Matcham Holgate community.
Without community support the Hall faces an uncertain future. The local residents have kept this hall on its feet for 110 years, it would be a tragedy if in 2025, on our watch, we allowed the Hall to fall into disrepair. If nothing else it would disrespect the memory of the Anzacs to whom the Hall was dedicated.
Local accountants Kennedy Cross have kindly volunteered to complete an Acquittal Audit on all funds raised and spent and we will make this available for review by any local resident requesting it.
You are a part owner of Matcham Hall - please give generously if you are able - we are extremely grateful for your support.
