Support Mat & His Family: Facing the Unfair Fight Against MND

Hi, my name is Michelle. I am raising funds to help my dear friends, Mat and Hollie and their three beautiful kids through yet another unfair battle.

After surviving leukaemia twice, a bone marrow transplant, multiple organ failure, life support, and years of recovery, Mat is now facing his toughest battle yet: Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

This fundraiser has been created to help ease the financial burden on Mat, his wife, and their three children, allowing them to focus on what matters most: making memories together, supporting their children's future, and spending precious time as a family.

If you know Mat, you know he has never backed down from a challenge.

He is a devoted husband, an incredible father to three beautiful children aged 15, 11 and 9, and someone who has spent much of his life fighting battles most of us cannot imagine.

In 2002, at just 23 years old, Mat was diagnosed with leukaemia and fought his way through treatment. Then, in 2017, at 39 years old, his world was turned upside down again when the leukaemia returned.

At the time, Mat and his wife were raising three very young children aged just 6 years, 1 year, and 8 months old.

What followed was a fight for survival.

After undergoing a bone marrow transplant, Mat suffered multiple organ failure, severe infections and spent time on life support. His family faced the terrifying possibility of losing him while caring for three young children who desperately needed their dad. Against overwhelming odds, he survived.

But survival was only the beginning.

Mat had to learn to walk again and spend years rebuilding his strength. The road back was long, difficult and exhausting, taking three years before he was finally able to return to work and provide for his family once again.

After everything he had endured and overcome, life has delivered another heartbreaking blow.

In March this year, at 48 years old, Mat was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

MND is a progressive disease with no cure. It has forced Mat to stop working and has changed the future he had planned for himself and his family.

Today, Mat's focus is not on himself. It is on making the most of every precious moment with his wife and children. It is on being present for his family, celebrating sporting achievements, attending school milestones, and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Like any loving father, Mat wants to know his children will be supported in the years ahead. He wants them to have opportunities, continue playing the sports they love, pursue their education and follow their dreams.

At the same time, his wife is carrying the enormous responsibility of caring for the family while working tirelessly to keep their small family cleaning business running.
