On the 3rd of September our family received the tragic news that our 2 year old, Mason, had been pulled from a dam unresponsive and suffering from a cardiac arrest. Thankfully paramedics were quick to respond and were able to resuscitate Mason at the scene. He was rushed to Westmead Children's Hospital where he was put on life support and endured swelling of the brain.
Doctors later confirmed that Mason has sustained brain damage to the cerebellum part of the brain (which controls his motor functions and coordination) along with other conditions that could potentially have a lifelong impact on the way he functions day-to-day.
Mason is now off life support and is able to breathe on his own. He is starting to open his eyes and look around. However it's still too early to know what lies ahead for him.
His Dad, Mitch, has been there by his side every step of the way and has held his son's hand through the most devastating of days. Due to the restrictions we've faced regarding COVID, we've sat outside the hospital each day to provide support for Mitch. We FaceTime Mason so we can sing and talk to him in hope that it's lifting his spirit. We call him our Little Lion, as he's shown that he has the courage and strength of one.
This tragic incident means that there are going to be drastic changes to Masons and his families life right now. There will also be the ongoing costs of treatments, hospital bills and adjustments to the house to allow for anything he may need at this time or in the future. We hope that if you're in a position to, that you can find it in your heart to donate what you can to help support Mitch and Mason as they navigate this next chapter of their lives.
Thank you.
