Mason and Casey's Back on Feet Fund
Donation protected
Hi I'm Keely (middle), and these are my half brothers, Casey (Right) and Mason (Left). We all have the same mother, who passed away at the young age of 54 about 7 years ago. Mason's father, mine and Casey's stepdad, suddenly passed on and joined her in heaven 3 years ago.
Mason is diagnosed with intellectual disability, autism, bi-polar, and anxiety. When he turned 18, my mom and stepdad became his legal guardian so that he would not become a ward of the state. Casey so generously offered, without hestitation, to take care of Mason and become his guardian. Casey has faced numerous challenges. Before our mom and stepdad passed, Casey took care of everyone. Although he is a skilled electrician, he never pursued school or obtained a license. It was difficult for him to find a job, and when he did, he was grateful and worked all he could. However, due to Mason's developmental diagnoses and mental illnesses, there were times when he would have "bad days" which prevented Casey from working. And if anyone knows about contractor work in this field, you know the jobs become slim to none once the whether gets cold. Casey tried, he is a hard worker when he has work. But when he can't go to work, he can't make enough money to save for the times when work is slow. You might be asking yourself, "Isn't there something Mason can do?" Of course there is, but the state is extremely slow in getting individuals with disabilities the help they need. He's been on the waiting list for years...until then, we just have to do what we can. I have since signed him up with a vocational rehab where they will teach him job skills, but they are slow too. The waiting game is tough.
With all that being said, here's what has happened:
1. Casey unfortunately has had the worst luck for the past couple of years. During all the good months of work, payments to all bills could easily be made, however the slow months hit him hard and he couldn't make car payments so the car got repossessed back in December. Casey has walked to work, taken the bus, and gotten rides from co-workers. However, its tough being an eletrician without a vehicle (imagine carrying tools for 2-3 miles).
2. They decided to move into an apartment, which has been increasing their rent each year. They really want to move into a home, or mobile home, where the rent is cheaper. Finding and affordable place close to his work on the bus line or within walking distance has been a challenge.
Here's what the money we raise will be used for:
1. Purchase a vehicle with cash. Nothing fancy. Just something to get them to and from work, and around town. And with NO monthly payments.
2. The rest will be used as a down payment on a mobile home or moving expenses (inlcuding down payment) on a new lease within their budget.
Raising this money and being able to help my brothers will lend so much relief to me and my family. I stress about them constantly. If I could afford to do this for them I would in a heartbeat. It seriously would mean the world to me if you all are able to help. To know that Casey can go to work, easily. To know that they no longer have to walk to the grocery store. To know that they are in a place they can truly call home! Seriously, it would be such an amazing feeling to get them back on their feet again! Please help us get there!
