Hallo zusammen,

Vielen Dank, Ashe, Asante and thank you

Hello everyone,

my name is Sandiego, I’m 40 years old and I come from Tanzania. I am a Maasai with 8 sisters — and anyone who knows a bit about my culture knows what that means Right, I’m basically responsible for everything: listening, solving problems, providing food, and giving financial support.

By now, I have been living in Germany for two years with my own small family. My daughter is two years old, and her little brother was born in January. Unfortunately, my role for the family in Tanzania is still the same, which of course brings considerable difficulties due to the great distance.

The life of the Maasai has changed a lot over the years — not only because of rising climate challenges, but also because everyday life is no longer comparable to the traditional lifestyle of 15–20 years ago. The Maasai can no longer live completely self-sufficiently in their villages, but at the same time, they don’t have the education or opportunities to take a different path. That’s why I send a considerable amount of my hard-earned salary every month (yes, I really do have a physically demanding and time-consuming job here in Germany ) to Africa. This money pays for things like food, medicine and cattle feed, doctor visits, my sister’s studies, and more.

With my partner starting her second period of parental leave, this is no longer fully possible. That’s why I’ve been looking for a way out of this situation, one that would allow me to give my family in Tanzania a better life, even without my constant support. I took out a loan in Africa and began building a small guesthouse, with the plan that once completed, it would pay for itself. My family would be able to run it, and the profits generated later could be used to support their livelihood. By now, the foundation walls are in place, which I’m very proud of because building in Africa is, of course, a challenge, and managing the whole project remotely from Germany is an even bigger one. A significant amount of money has already gone into the guesthouse, but unfortunately, the loan has been suspended, and I’m now unable to complete it as planned. At this point, this is of course a major disaster, as I want to open as soon as possible in order to start generating income. That’s why I’m now trying, through this route, to raise the remaining €9,000 needed.

Here are a few details about the guesthouse and its location: It will have 9 rooms and a small restaurant in the village of Mkindi. Mkindi is located in the Tanga region, about 20 km from the next larger town, Handeni. Currently, there is only one other small accommodation in the area with 4 rooms, and it is constantly fully booked. The demand is definitely there, especially due to the local school and the many surrounding villages.

Please help me and my family finish this project and hopefully inspire positive change in my small Maasai village — helping people become more independent and self-reliant. I am grateful for every donation, no matter how small ❤️

Anyone who travels to this part of Tanzania in the future is welcome to contact me — you’ll be able to stay at the guesthouse at a reduced price. I will also offer a tour to my Maasai village for those who are interested.

Dankeschön, Ashe, Asante and thank you
