Mark Reid runs 50 miles for mental health
My name is Mark Reid, I’m from Cookstown and I belong to the Sperrin Harriers running group. My father is Stanley Reid, he was a great man for fundraising and was recognised by the local council for his efforts. Dad started running at 60 and was picked to represent Northern Ireland at Masters Cross Country, where he won a gold, silver and 2 bronze medals. He is a huge inspiration to me.
I was 50 last year and decided following in my dad’s footsteps and in his memory I wanted to run 50miles and raise money for a worthy charity. Unfortunately COVID struck and I had to put this on hold.
This year has been a tough one for most, I know I myself struggled with my mentalhealth, I realised I needed help and contacted a local charity, The Hub BT80, here in Cookstown. They were able to provide counselling sessions for me with one of their in-house counsellors. They helped me immensely and I’ve decided I want to take on the task of running 50miles before my 51st Birthday with the funds raised being donated to them.
I will take on this challenge Saturday 10th April running a 9.2miles loop, 5 and 1/2 laps around Cookstown. I would be grateful for your support.
