Hi! My name is Kelley Jane Carvalho.
This January I will be running 26.2 miles in Disney World to help raise money for the Marist Brothers Center at Esopus (MBCE). For those who don’t know, the MBCE is a not-for-profit located in Esopus, NY that works to positively mold and foster our youth through self-exploratory retreats and service-work with a special concern for the poor and underprivileged populations the Center hosts, such as those with mental and physical disabilities, children from inner-city communities, hearing impaired children and adults, children with cancer, and many others.
For me, and I know I speak for so many others when I say that the MBCE is a home away from home and where everyone from all walks of life who seek natural beauty, acceptance, appreciation, spiritual growth, service and community are always welcome. This is the one place where I consistently witness strangers coming together in support for each other, those less fortunate … and walk away changed for the better.
Founded by the Marist Brothers in 1942, the MBCE is going on 75 years of doing so much, for so many, on so little. The Center is only able to flourish and continue its life changing work through the support of donors and volunteers like you and I.
My aim and hope is to raise the funds to allow for internet access in the main parts of the Center to aide in the efforts to upgrade the facility for the countless visitors that come in and out through the year, in addition to the volunteers who live on-site. As you can imagine, the MBCE has a number of priorities in regards to where funds should be allocated, and this is one item that I am working to take off their plate.
My goal is $2,500 for the full project, and I hope you can help me support this place that has positively affected and influenced countless people – including me.
