Bring Mario Home!

Mario and I began the process of applying for legal permanent residency in 2015. It's been 4 years of meeting with lawyers, documentation, and a lot of stress.
Mario came to this country when he was 18, taught himself to speak English, and has worked very hard for what he has accomplished. He left his home in Tamaulipas, Mexico to have a better life and be able to give back to his family. We met in 2013 and now have 2 beautiful children. He also has his daughter, Aries, who is 11 and lives in Wendell, NC with her mother and sisters. We see her every week and Rosie and Manny are so lucky to have her!
Mario and I decided we wanted to move forward with his application for permanent residency because it was better than the alternative. The alternative being looking over our shoulders for the rest of our lives, waiting for him to be deported without warning.
With permanent residency, Mario would never be deported from the United States and can have more opportunities to find stable employment. He can get a driver's license, find a job that offers health benefits, paid vacation, and a 401K, and never have to be afraid to get arrested and deported for a simple traffic violation.
We finally got notice in February of this year that his interview date was set. He was scheduled to go to Ciudad Juarez and be interviewed at the consulate on April 26th. He left on Monday April 22nd and based on the information we had and his case we were confident that he would get approved and be home within 3-4 weeks.
After his interview on Friday we discovered that we needed more for his file. The officer that interviewed him was not satisfied with what we provided, much to the surprise of his lawyers. His lawyers believe the particular officer Mario interviewed with was not operating within the typical guidelines of this process and unfortunately we have no control over that.
Now Mario is going to be gone for a little longer than we planned, possibly 2-4 months. We have everything that the officer asked for but it has to be submitted, reviewed, and another interview scheduled.
I'm starting this fund because without Mario's income it is IMPOSSIBLE for me to financially support our family. 3-4 weeks of missed paychecks would have been tight but do-able. 12-16 weeks of missed paychecks will get us evicted. With 2 babies in diapers and daycare, a mortgage, car payments, hospital bills, and Mario's travel expenses I can't do this alone.
I'm reaching out to family and friends with the hopes that you can contribute to our family so that I can make sure the babies are taken care of until Mario returns and gets back to work. If you are not comfortable with contributing online we would love gift cards for gas and groceries in the mail. Anything to keep us afloat while Mario is away.
I hesitated to create this account because it seems selfish to ask people to donate money to something that is not a charity. But when I look at our babies I know that I'm doing the right thing. And we would be eternally grateful for your support during this time. <3 Thank you!
