Marian College, supported by Principal, Angela Romano, wishes to support a member of our school community, Ngunsang Laithang, with her Disaster Relief Fund for Myanmar. Marian College is collecting funds that will be provided directly to Ngunsang to distribute to charities in the Myanmar region. Ngunsang shares her story below...

Dear Staff Members of Marian College,

I speak to you today about a tragic crisis that demands our compassion and action.

On March 28, 2025, Myanmar was struck by a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake—the most severe in over a century. The destruction has been overwhelming: over 3,700 lives lost, more than 5,000 injured, and over 200,000 people left homeless. Survivors now face dire conditions—without clean water, food, shelter, or medical care. Hospitals are overwhelmed, roads are damaged, and with the rainy season approaching, the challenges will only grow.

As of 5 May, a total of 3,787 people have died, 5,106 have been injured, and 88 remain missing across six regions and states of Myanmar.

The process of rebuilding and repairing the damage caused by the earthquake will be a very long and very costly one.

Even before this disaster, nearly 20 million people in Myanmar were already in need due to political conflict and poverty. The need is now greater than ever.

While we cannot be there in person, we can make a real difference. Your donations can help provide:

Medical care, Clean water and food, Safe shelter, Essential supplies

Even the smallest contribution can bring hope to those who are suffering.

I am deeply grateful for the prayers that have been offered for Myanmar. In times of pain and loss, these prayers have been a source of comfort, strength, and hope for many. Please continue to pray—for healing, for safety, and for those who are working tirelessly to help. Your spiritual support means more than words can express.

Please consider donating and sharing this message with others. Together, we can support the people of Myanmar in their time of greatest need.

Thank you for your compassion, your prayers, and your support.

Thank you.
Ngunsang
