Ajută-ne să spunem povestea Mariei Drăgan - legenda uitată a muzicii populare moldovenești

„Blestemul Mariei Drăgan” este primul lungmetraj biografic dedicat vieții acestei femei extraordinare. Un film produs cu drag în Moldova, regizat de Călin Laur - cineast și producător din noua generație, remarcat pentru abordarea sa autentică și profund umană.
Proiectul a fost distins cu Marele Premiu la Transilvania Pitch Stop (în cadrul Festivalul Internațional de Film Transilvania), precum și cu premiul principal Pack&Pitch la Sarajevo Talents 2022, și este susținut de Centrul Național al Cinematografiei.
Anterior, Călin Laur a realizat filme precum „Casa Mare” „Lost in Moldova”, „Băbuțe pe Bărcuțe” și alte proiecte care explorează identitatea, memoria și transformările societății moldovenești, conturând un stil recognoscibil, sensibil și profund ancorat în realitate.
Cine a fost Maria Drăgan?
La șaisprezece ani, contrar voinței fratelui ei mai mare, Maria a fugit de acasă și s-a înscris la o școală de muzică din Chișinău. Talentul ei era copleșitor. A fost descoperită de muzicianul Isidor Burdin - care a introdus-o în lumea muzicii populare.
Cariera ei a explodat. A intrat în ansamblul „Mugurel" - cel mai important ansamblu de muzică populară al vremii - și a cucerit publicul cu vocea și prezența ei scenică incredibilă. Era vedeta necontestată. Era liberă, pasionată, vie.
Dar libertatea ei a speriat autoritățile. A cântat cântece “interzise”. A trăit după propriile reguli, într-o societate care nu ierta o femeie independentă. Colegii invidioși au denunțat-o. KGB-ul a intervenit. Și Maria a fost înlăturată de pe scena pe care o iubea mai mult decât orice.
Fără scenă, fără muzică - lumea ei s-a prăbușit. A căzut în autodistrugere. S-a retras în satul natal, lângă mama ei bătrână.
În 1986, un jurnalist pe nume Gheorghe Budeanu a mers să o găsească. A găsit-o săracă, bolnavă, uitată. Dar în acel interviu, Maria a găsit din nou o licărire de speranță. A spus că vrea să trăiască. Că vrea să cânte din nou.
La două săptămâni după interviu, Maria Drăgan a murit. Avea 39 de ani.
Filmul este produs de OWH Studio, o casă de producție independentă din Moldova, cunoscută pentru proiecte curajoase care explorează identitatea și memoria, contribuind la afirmarea unei noi voci în cinematografia moldovenească. De-a lungul timpului, OWH Studio a fost implicată în realizarea unor filme importante precum „Siberia din oase”, „Te iubesc, Ion și Doina”, „Nunta în Basarabia” , „MMM”, proiecte care au adus în prim-plan povești puternice și autentice din spațiul nostru cultural.
Producătorul filmului este Virgiliu Mărgineanu, unul dintre cei mai experimentați și respectați producători din Moldova, implicat în numeroase proiecte cinematografice importante și dedicat susținerii noii generații de cineaști.
Actrița principală este Alexandrina Grecu, una dintre cele mai talentate actrițe ale noii generații, care aduce pe ecran toată complexitatea și forța Mariei Drăgan.
Directorul de imagine este Nicu Drăgan - rudă cu Maria - pentru care acest film este un act personal de dreptate și de memorie.
Filmul se bazează pe ultimul interviu real al Mariei și pe casete audio descoperite recent, cu mărturiile vecinilor, prietenilor și rudelor ei.
Am filmat deja 15 zile. Avem imagini extraordinare. Avem o echipă dedicată trup și suflet acestui film.

The film is based on documented accounts and interviews, and includes elements of artistic interpretation and dramatization.

And yet - most of you don't know who she really was. Because the Soviet system erased her. Silenced her. Punished her for daring to be free.
Who was Maria Drăgan?
At sixteen, against her controlling brother's wishes, Maria fled her village to study music in Chișinău. Her talent was overwhelming. She was discovered by musician Isidor Burdin - a regime dissident - who introduced her to the world of Romanian folk music, banned by Soviet censors. Her career exploded. She joined the ensemble "Mugurel" - the most celebrated folk ensemble of the era - and conquered audiences with her extraordinary voice and stage presence. She was the undisputed star. She was free, passionate, alive.
But her freedom frightened the authorities. She sang forbidden songs. She lived by her own rules, in a society that could not forgive an independent woman. Jealous colleagues reported her. The KGB intervened. And Maria was removed from the stage she loved more than anything.
Without the stage, without music - her world collapsed. She retreated to her home village, to her aging mother.
In 1986, a journalist named Gheorghe Budeanu went to find her. He found her poor, sick, and forgotten. But in that interview, Maria found a glimmer of hope again. She said she wanted to live. To sing again.
Two weeks after the interview, Maria Drăgan died. She was 39 years old.

Funds will be used primarily for completing filming, post-production, original score, and festival distribution. If the full amount is not raised, funds will be allocated proportionally to the most critical stages of completion.
