Hi, my name is Marcus Villarroel, and I’m an Eagle Scout candidate from Troop 702 in Reading, Massachusetts. For my Eagle Scout Project, I’m excited to be partnering with the Friends of the Middlesex Fells and the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) to launch a special conservation initiative: The Be Kind! Conservation Trail.
Today I am raising funds to rescue for significant sites, if we all work together, even a $10 or $20 contribution will help me buy the materials for informational sign posts that will last for years.
When I was 8 years old, I began my journey to visit all 76 Massachusetts State Parks as part of the DCR Park Passport Program. One of my very first visits was to the Middlesex Fells, and I’ve been inspired by its beauty ever since. The Fells has been a cherished natural space for over 130 years, but today, it’s facing serious threats—especially from rogue trails and habitat loss.
The Be Kind! Conservation Trail will highlight and protect four of the most vulnerable sites in the Fells. This trail will include educational signage, improved paths, and barriers to protect native plants and wildlife—reminding all visitors to "be kind" to the land, the animals, and each other.
Since The Fells helped spark my passion for state parks, I want to make sure future kids can cherish nature the same way I did.
Thank you!
