Hi! My name is Torie and I am Marcus’s wife. Many people have seen the news and know what has happened to my husband and our family. In the early morning of August 7, 2023, a man ran in front of my husband while he was driving for work. The man pretended to be a civilian in need of help. He told my husband people was trying to kill him and he needed my husband’s help. Shortly after my husband drove off with this man, he held my husband at knife point. After his life was threatened and forced to drive at knife point there was a moment of opportunity and my husband decided to try and put an end to this man’s madness. Marcus started to fight the man for the knife. In order to saves the lives of other motorists on the road Marcus had no choice but to stop fighting for the knife and grab the steering wheel to swerve away from on coming traffic, saving the lives of tens of people. While he was doing this he was already being stabbed by this madman who had him cornered in a large commercial vehicle. Eventually, my husband had been stabbed enough times where he was no longer able to defend himself and he had to make a four foot jump out of his vehicle going 45 mph in order to save his life, which resulted in him fracturing his knee. My husband is a hero and put the lives of other people before his own and unfortunately it has costed us greatly. He was stabbed in the arm and in his face and workman’s comp is only covering a fraction of what he used to make before this attack. We have four children and can’t afford to lose this much of our finances. Marcus went to the doctor and they scheduled surgery for his arm as his nerves are severed and he cannot use his left arm at all. The doctors are telling us he could be out of work for up to a year. The investigators and police who watched the footage praised Marcus and said he was a hero and gave him credit for saving multiple people’s lives that day. One of the policemen was fighting back tears and told us “it was one of the most courageous things he had ever witnessed” we feel terrible to ask for help but we have no other option.
