Marching Through March for Charity

Hello there, our names are Drew & Beth

Throughout the month of March we will both be taking on challenges in order to raise money for two different charities, The Irish Kidney Association and Save The Children.

The initial plan for our March fundraising efforts was to raise money for The Irish Kidney Association as this is a charity very close to our hearts. Drew is currently on the Kidney Transplant waiting list with Beaumont Hospital and undergoes Peritoneal Dialysis at home for 8 hours every day.

The Irish Kidney Association provides invaluable services to those suffering from Chronic Kidney Disease in Ireland such as counselling services, support centres, patient holidays and financial support.

As you know, there is also a tragic humanitarian crisis developing in Ukraine currently, and as of today over 500,000 Ukrainian citizens have fled their home country due to the Russian invasion. We felt it would not be right to fundraise this month and not include a charity that is directly linked to the ongoing war.

At least 3.5 million children are in grave danger of physical harm, severe emotional distress, and displacement following the recent escalation in hostilities. Temperatures in the country are dropping below freezing, and displaced children may face long nights and days exposed to brutal conditions.

We have chosen to support Save The Children who will be distributing winter kits and hygiene kits, providing cash grants to families so they can meet basic needs such as food, rent and medicines. They also support children to overcome the mental and psychological impact of the conflict.

Our Challenges:

Each day in March, we will both be taking on separate running and walking challenges, respectively.

Beth will be undertaking a 5km run each day for the next 31 days, and Drew will be walking at least 10km over the course of each day.

Combined, we will be putting down at least 465km over March come wind, rain or shine.
