Transformational Change for Malawian Families: March Match

Tax deductible
The Community Independence Initiative (CII) in Zomba, Malawi, supported by Root Change, a US-based 501(c)(3), is proving that families are their own best agents of change! Through self-led action, peer-driven learning, and mutual aid, families are tripling their income, building financial security by saving 8 times what they were, and investing in sustainable businesses that benefit not only their own families but others in the community—all without reliance on traditional aid models.

Given astounding success of the model with the first 100 families, Root Change is looking to expand to an additional 50 families over the next year and needs YOU to help us get there. We have a generous donor who's agreed to a dollar-for-dollar match on the first $10,000 of donations raised within the month of March! This means each dollar you see here on GoFundMe is DOUBLED.

CII Malawi has been running for nearly 2 years, and is a peer driven change initiative that brings together local families (7-8 people per family) into support groups who set their own goals through journaling and community discussion. Family groups meet monthly for peer support and decision-making using data to drive their investments, which come from monthly stipends given to each family as well as a one-time larger investment once families have been part of CII for a few months.

With the match from our generous donor, your donation of $100 would unlock opportunities for one CII family for roughly 4 months.
