Marc Proulx ‘s family facing the unexpected

Hi, my name is Denise Doré Proulx.

My brother-in-law Marc which I’ve known since he was 13 years old suddenly fell ill this past month at the age of 59. On June 12, he was brought to the Montfort Hospital Emergency by ambulance. What the doctor actually tought was a stroke turned out to be lung cancer that had spread to the brain. Originally, he was given 3 months to live. He spent 10 days at the hospital.

Once back home he enjoyed a weekend with family. Five days later he took a turn for the worst. The doctor who did a house call is now giving him 3 weeks and arranges for a transfer to the St-Vincent Hospital, Bruyère palliative care wing. Upon arriving, the doctor did an assessment and reviewed Marc’s chart and was quite upfront with us about spending time with Marc because he is now facing mere days.

Marc is a father and a grandfather. His son Shawn battled brain cancer at the tender age of 4. Shawn surprisingly became a father at 20 years old. Selena was born May 22nd 2015. Which happens to be Marc’s birthday. During the hard times this family went through, this grand-daughter was a blessing and a miracle.

Selena is now 8 years old. These 2 geminis are stubborn, fight like cats and dogs but always made up with a “sorry” and “I love you”.

Marc set up his backyard into what was dubbed “Adventure Land”. Complete with a pool, trampoline, play structure and a zipline for what they considered their “surprise” grand-daughter. The gazebo and swing was the adults oasis that got them through covid.

Marc was always willing to help the community in need. Where cutting trees and cleaning up debris during all the storms we had. He started a garden during covid which they’d share the fruits of his labour with their neighbors. Also helping family members in need with construction jobs.

Having this happened in such a short period of time, the family was not prepared for this and could use your help. So we are trying to raise money to alleviate some of the financial burden this family is facing. There are many challenges facing them in the future and many adjustments that will need to be made for everyday life. Please assist us in reaching our fundraising goal.
