This month my marathons are dedicated to charities working across Africa. From tackling housing insecurity to providing clean water, healthcare, and leadership support, these organisations are helping to build stronger, healthier, and more hopeful futures for communities across the continent.

My 40th marathon and second marathon outside of England, takes me to Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates. This week’s run is for Habitat for Humanity, a charity working across Africa and the world to make sure everyone has a safe place to call home.

What is the struggle?

Across Africa, millions of families live in unsafe or overcrowded housing. Fragile structures, lack of clean water, and no proper sanitation leave people vulnerable to disease, insecurity, and poverty. Without a decent home, children can’t study, parents can’t work safely, and families live with constant uncertainty. A home is more than shelter—it’s the foundation for health, stability, and hope.

Why am I running for this cause?

Because home is something none of us should have to question. I always had a secure roof over my head, a space to rest, and the comfort of knowing I was safe. For too many families in Africa, that’s still a dream. Running for Habitat for Humanity is my way of standing in support with them—because a safe home shouldn’t be a privilege, it should be a right.

What is Habitat for Humanity and what do they do?

Habitat for Humanity works in more than 70 countries, with a strong presence across Africa. They build and repair homes, provide access to clean water and sanitation, and empower communities with training and tools to create lasting change. They also help families rebuild after disasters and campaign for fair housing policies. By partnering directly with families, they ensure solutions are sustainable and life changing.
