My 39th marathon will be the first non english run, completing my marathon in Istanbul, Turkey. This week’s run is for the single parents across the UK. I’m proud to support Gingerbread, a charity that’s been standing with single-parent families for over 100 years.
What is the struggle?
Single parents juggle roles that are usually shared between two people: earning, parenting, managing a household, and often doing it all with little support. Financial hardship, loneliness, and stigma still impact many single-parent families. Despite their resilience, single parents are more likely to live in poverty and face barriers to employment and education.
Why am I running for this cause?
Because my seperated parents are the hardest working, most determined people I know. They don’t have the luxury of sharing the load, yet they still managed to raise me and my brother, pay the bills, and provide love and stability. Their strength is inspiring—but there’s so many out there who have it even harder.
What is Gingerbread and what do they do?
Gingerbread is the leading charity for single-parent families. They provide expert advice, peer support groups, and campaigns for fairer policies on issues like childcare, employment rights, and benefits. They give single parents the tools to not just survive, but thrive—and to ensure their children get the same opportunities as anyone else’s.
Your donation directly helps single parents:
• £10 provides information resources for a parent in need.
• £25 funds expert advice from a support worker.
• £50 helps run a local peer support group.
• £100 supports campaigning work for systemic change.
Please donate to Gingerbread and help lighten the load for single parents everywhere. For more info: www.gingerbread.org.uk
