On August 14th, I’ll be running Marathon 28 in Tamworth, Staffordshire. This week, I’m supporting Make-A-Wish UK, dedicating this run to children facing life-threatening conditions. I’m running to bring a fraction of joy and hope into the last moments of childhoods that are being cut heartbreakingly short.
The what:
For some children, life becomes a fight far too early. Diagnosed with critical or terminal illnesses, they endure endless hospital stays, invasive treatments, and uncertain futures. These children are robbed of the innocence and freedom that childhood should bring. In many cases, the prognosis is terminal. While the world carries on, their time is painfully limited. And for their families, each moment becomes more precious than the last.
The Why:
Because no child should face the end of life without knowing they were seen, celebrated, and given a chance to feel joy. I’m running to honour those stories, and do my bit to help create more of them.
What is Make-A-Wish UK and What Do They Do?
Make-A-Wish UK grants wishes to children with critical illnesses—each one tailored to a child’s deepest hope. Whether it’s flying in a helicopter or having a special family day out, these wishes bring light, laughter, and a sense of wonder to children who desperately need it. The charity works closely with families, healthcare professionals, and volunteers to ensure each wish is safe, meaningful, and unforgettable.
How the Charity Helps and Where Your Donation Goes:
• £10 can fund a memory box or keepsake to preserve a special day.
• £25 helps cover part of the logistics of a wish experience.
• £50 supports custom accommodations for medical needs during a wish.
• £100 could make a full wish day possible, from planning to delivery.
Crossing the finish line in Tamworth, I’m running for the brave children who won’t have the chance to grow up, but who still deserve everything that makes childhood magical. Please donate to Make-A-Wish UK—marathon 28 is for them—and your support can change A LOT.
