MARATHON NO.21; HERTFORDSHIRE FOR DOWNS SYNDROME ASSOCIATION

Donation protected
In the county of Hertfordshire and the town of Watford, I am proudly running my 21st marathon for the incredible individuals living with Down syndrome, alongside the Down’s Syndrome Association.

What is Down syndrome?
Down syndrome is a genetic condition caused by the presence of an extra chromosome 21. This additional genetic material affects development and results in characteristic physical traits, as well as varying degrees of learning disabilities. However, Down syndrome is not a disease or an illness—it's simply a different path of development. People with Down syndrome bring incredible value to their communities, and with the right support, they lead full, vibrant, and meaningful lives.

Why am I running for Down syndrome?
Too often, outdated perceptions limit opportunities for those living with the condition. With understanding, education, and support, individuals with Down syndrome can thrive in school, work, and friendships. Every person deserves the chance to reach their dreams, and by running today, I hope to get closer to a world where those with Down syndrome are celebrated for who they are—not underestimated for what they are not.

What is the Down’s Syndrome Association (DSA) and what do they do?
The Down’s Syndrome Association (DSA) is the only charity in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland solely dedicated to supporting people with Down syndrome and their families. They provide expert information, direct support services, training for professionals, and campaign for greater rights and opportunities. The DSA empowers people with Down syndrome to live as independently as possible and works tirelessly to challenge outdated stereotypes and ensure every voice is heard and valued.

Every donation to the DSA brings hope and practical support to countless families and individuals:
£10 could help produce vital information booklets for new parents adjusting to a diagnosis.
£50 could fund training sessions for employers, helping more people with Down syndrome find meaningful work.
£100 could support advocacy campaigns, giving a stronger voice to the Down syndrome community in shaping public policy.

From early years to adulthood, the DSA is a lifeline for so many, making sure that those with Down syndrome can live the lives they choose. Your donation, no matter the size, can be part of that future. Thank you for helping turn every mile worth it by donating.
