This June, I turn 30.

And like I’ve done each year, I’m choosing to mark this milestone with more than just cake and candles - I’m celebrating with purpose.

If you know me, you know that clothing is a big part of my passions, and story, and therefore sewing is a skill I believe valuable. In reflecting on my 30th birthday I realized how much of my life is an amalgam of passions and gifts that I have the privilege of pursuing. I wanted a fundraiser that draws from something I love, but grounded in skills and a tool that can empower someone else to pursue a skill in making clothes that could one day pay them, or enable them to find themselves.

I am inviting you to partner my birthday fundraiser by either contributing to or purchasing a sewing machine. While buying brand-new machines is the primary goal, I would love to receive second-hand machines in great working condition. You can also support by sharing this call for support in your circles, because the more of us partner in this, the more machines we can buy.

I believe this a great opportunity for young girls and boys to create something with their own hands. To learn a skill that could one day become a livelihood. To find joy and dignity in creativity.

From June 1st to 30th, 2025, I’ll be running this fundraiser with a simple goal:

To put as many sewing machines as possible into the hands of passionate students and teachers in under-resourced schools.
