Help bring the Mansouri family to Australia

Maryam, Mansoor, Maral and Mahyar are an Iranian refugee family of four currently stuck in Turkey, where they have been on the run from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) for almost five years.

Mother and son Maryam and Mahyar participated in Iran’s 2019 ‘Bloody Aban’ (آبان خونین) protest movement, which began as a series of demonstrations about a hike in the price of fuel before escalating into a widespread movement against the Islamic Republic regime. The entire family had been involved in anti-regime activities for a number of years prior, including activism over animal rights and environmental concerns.

During the violent crackdown on protesters in 2019, in which more than a thousand people were killed on the streets, Maryam and Mahyar were arrested by the IRGC and thrown into Evin prison, where they were beaten, assaulted and subjected to relentless interrogation. They received 6 and 8 year prison sentences respectively in a flawed ‘revolutionary court’ process set up to imprison protesters and political dissidents.

I met Maryam in Qarchak women’s prison in 2020, which is located in the suburb of Varamin south of the capital Tehran. Qarchak is known as one of the most brutal women’s prisons in the world, with some of the worst conditions. An Australian academic wrongfully arrested in 2018 and used by Iran as a diplomatic hostage, I had been sent to Qarchak as a punishment, having at that point already served almost 2 years in Evin. Maryam showed me great kindness during my time in Qarchak, she was like a mother to myself and the other protesters and political prisoners based there.

Maryam and her son Mahyar managed to escape Iran for Turkey while on temporary leave from prison, where they were joined by husband Mansoor and daughter Maral. Since arriving in Turkey the IRGC has continued to pursue them, and has sought their extradition back to Iran, where they would face fresh charges laid by a Tehran court in absentia in 2023. In 2025 the Turkish government issued an order for Maryam and Mahyar’s deportation to Iran.

Recognising this family’s dire and urgent need for asylum, the Australian government recently issued the Mansouris with Global Special Humanitarian visas enabling them to come to Australia as refugees. The Turkish authorities have refused to take this into account, and have continued their efforts to deport Maryam and Mahyar back to Iran. The family must be brought to Australia urgently, before this order is enacted.

The Mansouris are responsible for paying their transport costs to Australia, however after years of living precariously as refugees in Turkey they are unable to fund the cost of their flights at such short notice. This Gofundme has been set up to appeal for assistance in funding the cost of getting the Mansouris to Australia, paying their exit visas from Turkey, and helping them to set themselves up after they arrive with suitable accommodation and food, clothing and other needs.

مریم، منصور، مارال و مهیار یک خانواده چهار نفره پناهنده ایرانی هستند که در حال حاضر در ترکیه گیر افتاده اند و تقریباً پنج سال است که از سپاه پاسداران انقلاب اسلامی ایران (سپاه) فرار کرده اند.

مادر و پسر مریم و مهیار در جنبش اعتراضی آبان خونین ۱۳۹۸ ایران شرکت کردند که به عنوان یک سری تظاهرات در مورد افزایش قیمت سوخت آغاز شد و سپس به جنبشی گسترده علیه رژیم جمهوری اسلامی تبدیل شد. تمام خانواده چندین سال قبل در فعالیت‌های ضد رژیم، از جمله فعالیت‌های مربوط به حقوق حیوانات و نگرانی‌های زیست‌محیطی شرکت داشتند.

در جریان سرکوب خشونت‌آمیز معترضان در سال ۱۳۹۸ که طی آن بیش از هزار نفر در خیابان‌ها کشته شدند، مریم و مهیار توسط سپاه دستگیر و به زندان اوین انداخته شدند و در آنجا مورد ضرب و شتم، تعرض و بازجویی‌های بی‌امان قرار گرفتند. آنها در یک فرآیند معیوب «دادگاه انقلاب» که برای زندانی کردن معترضان و مخالفان سیاسی ایجاد شده بود، به ترتیب به 6 و 8 سال زندان محکوم شدند.

مریم را در سال ۱۳۹۹ در زندان زنان قرچک که در حومه ورامین در جنوب پایتخت تهران قرار دارد، ملاقات کردم. قرچک به عنوان یکی از وحشیانه ترین زندان های زنان در جهان شناخته می شود که برخی از بدترین شرایط را دارد. یکی از دانشگاهیان استرالیایی که در سال 2018 به اشتباه دستگیر شد و توسط ایران به عنوان گروگان دیپلماتیک مورد استفاده قرار گرفت، به عنوان مجازات به قرچک فرستاده شده بودم و در آن مقطع تقریباً 2 سال در اوین گذرانده بودم. مریم در دوران حضورم در قرچک به من محبت زیادی کرد، او برای خودم و دیگر معترضان و زندانیان سیاسی مستقر در آنجا مثل یک مادر بود.

مریم و پسرش مهیار در حالی که در مرخصی موقت از زندان بودند، موفق شدند از ایران به ترکیه فرار کنند و منصور و دخترش مارال به آنها پیوستند. از زمان ورود به ترکیه، سپاه پاسداران انقلاب اسلامی به تعقیب آنها ادامه داده و خواستار استرداد آنها به ایران شده است، جایی که در سال 2023 با اتهامات جدیدی از سوی دادگاه تهران به صورت غیابی مواجه خواهند شد. در سال 2025 دولت ترکیه دستور اخراج مریم و مهیار به ایران را صادر کرد.

دولت استرالیا با درک نیاز مبرم و فوری این خانواده به پناهندگی، اخیراً برای منصوری ها ویزای بشردوستانه ویژه جهانی صادر کرده است که به آنها امکان می دهد به عنوان پناهنده به استرالیا بیایند. مقامات ترکیه از در نظر گرفتن این موضوع خودداری کرده و به تلاش های خود برای اخراج مریم و مهیار به ایران ادامه داده اند. قبل از اجرای این دستور، خانواده باید فوراً به استرالیا آورده شوند.

منصوری ها مسئول پرداخت هزینه های حمل و نقل خود به استرالیا هستند، اما پس از سال ها زندگی نامطمئن به عنوان پناهنده در ترکیه، آنها نمی توانند هزینه پروازهای خود را در مدت کوتاهی تامین کنند. این Gofundme برای درخواست کمک در تامین هزینه های انتقال منصوری ها به استرالیا و همچنین کمک به آنها برای راه اندازی پس از رسیدن آنها با اسکان مناسب و غذا، پوشاک و سایر نیازها راه اندازی شده است.
