Manos Unidas por Colombia: LMSA Southeast Fundraiser
0% complete
$385 raised of
14 donations
On August 10, 2026, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck western Colombia, causing widespread devastation across Cali, Pereira, Manizales, Quibdó, and surrounding communities. More than 200 people have died, over 1,200 have been injured, and thousands of homes have been damaged or destroyed as search and rescue efforts continue.
Many Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) Southeast members have personal ties to Colombia. In response, LMSA Southeast is partnering with Global Empowerment Mission (GEM), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Doral, Florida, to provide timely, coordinated support.
GEM has identified monetary donations as the most effective way to support its response. Funds will provide emergency assistance through GEM's on-the-ground team in Colombia, including:
- Medical supplies and care
- Food and clean water
- Hygiene and essential household items
- Shelter supplies, including blankets, for displaced families
An LMSA Southeast-Wide Effort
This initiative brings together all LMSA Southeast chapters. We encourage members to share this page with their chapter, school community, friends, family, and broader networks to maximize our collective impact. Together, we hope to provide meaningful support to those affected in Colombia. Every contribution, regardless of size, makes a difference.
LMSA Southeast Chapter Challenge
The LMSA Southeast chapter that raises the most funds will receive special recognition for its efforts. When donating, please include your LMSA chapter name in the comment section so we can track each chapter's contributions.
Thank you for standing with the people of Colombia during this devastating time. Together, we can support affected communities and contribute to their recovery.
