Manchester marathon for LimbBo foundation
I’ll be running the Manchester marathon on the 27th april in aid of the LimbBo foundation.
The LimbBo foundation was formed in 2018 to support children with a limb difference and their families. Following the birth of Tommy D in 2014, his parents didn’t want others to feel isolated and along with the support of another family member and a family friend, LimbBo was formed.
We now have a range of initiatives designed to promote inclusivity and a positive experience for families including:
• An annual adventure day held in Yorkshire which just completed its 6th year – families travel hundreds of miles to visit (some visitors even travel from other countries). There were 650 attendees this August, including 128 children with a limb difference.
• An annual weekend camp at Hesley Wood Scout Centre as well as an annual Christmas party
• Mini meet ups throughout the UK
• In house designed and 3D printed bike adaptations sent worldwide
• An active online community of parents and volunteers there to advise and support each other giving both emotional and practical support.
• Working with publishers to improve inclusion and representation in children's literature.
• Production and distribution of materials to maternity wards so that parents receiving the news that their children will have a limb difference don’t feel isolated
• Welcome packs for new families joining the LimbBo Community.
• A School pack to give to teachers when a Limb different child joins their school.
• Online competitions for children and a new pen pal initiative.
•
LimbBo is a welcoming family friendly organisation. We don’t charge for any of our events or adaptations and so the work of fundraisers and supporters is invaluable to us.
