Mama-Tee Community Fridge

Food is a right not a privilege.  The Community Fridge is a joint effort led by women of color.  Our goal is to help those who are in need of food.  Free food is a healthier alternative to seeking food out of garbage cans.  Our first community fridge project will provide sustainable food for those in communities of color in the city of Philadelphia.  Our motto is - take some and leave some.  We work with nonprofits, restaurants, grocery stores, and individuals by collecting and sharing food that may otherwise go to waste.  We're encouraging community leaders and local businesses to help us with this effort.

Communities of color predominately reside in areas that are characterized as "food deserts".  These are  geographic areas where residents’ access to affordable, healthy food options (especially fresh fruits and vegetables) is restricted or nonexistent due to the absence of grocery stores within convenient travelling distance.  A third of the planet's food goes to waste — enough to feed two billion people and cause economic losses of approximately $750 billion, according to the United Nations, fruits and vegetables are the most wasted food items.

Today, your generous gift will support the ongoing operation of the Community Fridge.  We'd like to have at least 20 community fridges up and running by the end of the year.  All contributions will be directed towards the following:

-Volunteer support
-Food purchases (fresh produce/farmers market)
-Fridge Upkeep
-Business Expenses

In light of the difficulties that we all face due to COVID -19, as well as the ongoing fight for social justice, the fight for food equality is also a reality.  We want to do our part by making sure that our community fridge is readily available with fresh food to support the communities that need it most.

We appreciate your consideration in supporting our initiative.  We will be posting updates on our Instagram page.
