Born on October 25, 1937, and Died 2016, Mama Paulina Mangare was a devout, gentle, and compassionate woman known for her generosity. Paulina Mangare was dedicated to helping orphans, impoverished children, and those in need of basic necessities. She highly contributed to empowering underprivileged schoolgirls in schools in Tanzania to reach their full potential and see them become strong leaders in their communities.
Inspired by her remarkable work, The community established a foundation in her name MAMA PAULINA MANGARE to honour the woman who touched so many lives of women and girls in her village and surrounding villages.
Despite having children of her own, Mama Paulina also fostered more than 20 children, showing her commitment to caring for others. She worked tirelessly to break down education barriers for women and girls, leaving behind a powerful legacy.
in Tanzania, 49% of people live below the international monetary poverty line of $1.90 per day -United Nation Development Programme (2019). Many children still face barriers to accessing education – including lack of money for school-going essentials like uniforms.
Mama Paulina Mangare Foundation vision and objectives are touching and connecting with many of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as outlined by United Nations in 2015. Addressing Period Poverty for Underprivilege School Girls in Uru-Mnini Tanzania project is indirectly included under goal number 5 (Gender Equality), 4 (Quality Education), 3 (Good Health and well-being).
In Tanzania, period poverty is a significant barrier to the empowerment and progress of schoolgirls. Mama Paulina Mangare Foundation is spearheading efforts to challenge and overcome this issue. about 62% of underprivileged schoolgirls in schools in Tanzania – miss between 3-5 days of class during their period due to a lack of access to sanitary products. The lack of access to sanitary pads and psycho-social support during menstruation further compounds the difficulties faced by these girls. This critical aspect of reproductive health becomes a significant impediment to their educational journey, requiring urgent attention and intervention to break the cycle of disadvantage and empower these young girls to realize their full potential
Currently, the foundation is supporting 350 underprivileged schoolgirls per month in 2024-25 Financial year. The 350 schoolgirls have bright futures as leaders and change-makers, breaking stigmas and barriers surrounding menstruation and not letting this natural process keep them from reaching their goals any longer.
Through financial contributions, we can create a ripple effect that transforms the lives of countless children. At Mama Paulina Mangare Foundation, we believe that every child deserves a chance to write their own story, dream beyond their circumstances, and contribute meaningfully to the world. Join us in building a foundation where hope knows no boundaries, and horizons are limitless.
