These foods are the heart of Somali culinary heritage,kneaded by hand, passed from mother to daughter, made fresh every morning for centuries across the Horn of Africa and beyond.

Today, they are disappearing. Not because women have forgotten. But because modern life has made their daily preparation nearly impossible.

Knowledge no longer practised is knowledge on its way to being lost.

Mama Asal is a women-led nonprofit founded on 2026 by five women united by one mission: preserve Somali culinary heritage and create dignified economic opportunities for the women who carry that knowledge, in the Horn of Africa and across the global Somali diaspora.

We are building the first women-run traditional Somali food production workshop, where ancient recipes become daily work and real income.

Aujourd'hui, ils disparaissent. Pas parce que les femmes ont oublié. Mais parce que la vie moderne a rendu leur préparation presque impossible.

Un savoir qui n'est plus pratiqué est un savoir perdu.

Mama Asal est une association fondée par cinq femmes pour préserver le patrimoine culinaire Somalien et autonomiser les femmes qui le portent, en Afrique de l'Est et dans toute la diaspora somalienne mondiale.
