Malone Skatepark Fund

Hello, my name is Carter Beitz...I am a skateboarder from Malone, NY and Im looking to make a change in the way skateboarding is treated and viewed in our area. I started up my own brand three
years ago called Jebus Skateboards to support the local scene of skaters who werent being pushed to their full potential. My goal here is to raise funds for a local park here, something our town has turned their heads on for decades but needs. The youth of malone/world is changing and the typical interest of traditional sports is expanding into many different areas. We want to give somewhere for these kids to progress in skateboarding and also a safe spot for our youth to hang. $30,000 is a big goal and just a start to our skatepark mission, but totally achievable. I have been gathering all the local skateboarders to begin fundraising elsewhere and pushing this at the village meetings. All funds will be donated straight to materials/skatepark cost (building a concrete skatepark in Malone). If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me through my website www.jebusskateboards.com or through here.

About a decade ago we had an enclosed parking lot area made for us and labeled a "skatepark." What it lacked was a skateboarders perspective, any creativity or appeal, and what I saw as a total brush off to our issue. Years later they filled it with dirt and grass. Now whenever this issue is pressed, that lot is referred to and any potential is shut down. But I have seen what a skatepark can do for even a small community....down the road in Saranac Lake(45 minutes) they were able to raise enough for a beautiful concrete park 6 years ago. And they are a fraction of the size of Malone, so if anyone up here can push this its us. And we have the room for it...between the several abandoned buildings we could go as far as an indoor park(most beneficial with our winters) or filling in some un-used sports field with an out door concrete park. The popularity of skateboarding is growing and I see more and more kids on the streets carrying boards everyday with no designated space to learn safely. I myself would love to see a designated spot for all of them to be safe and with their friends while they practice on obstacles made for them. I think skateboarding is way too popular these days to keep shrugging this off, its no longer underground, we are dealing with something as big as the olympics now. We should be pushing for this like we push for any else like soccer, football, baseball or any other traditional sport.

As we move forward, our motivation becomes clearer: we want to create a free recreational space for our community and especially our youth. Recreation and socialization opportunities are important, and this project will create both. Reflecting back on the isolation that COVID-19 created, we realize that access to recreation and socially open spaces is vital for a healthy community. Furthermore, we want the youth of our community to have more recreational opportunities in Malone, rather than needing to travel to other communities to find them.
As far away as this idea might seem, it is totally achievable. With hardwork and determination we can pick this project up ourselves and get it done instead sitting around waiting. We want a park, lets make one! :)
