Last year I sadly lost my cousin Seamy.
Seamy was a fantastic person and loved greatly by his family, friends, colleagues and many more, and was a role model to me growing up.
Suicide continues to be one of the leading causes of death worldwide, with more than 700,000 lives lost every year. In Ireland, the reality is especially stark for men, who make up roughly 80% of all suicide deaths. Despite this, many men still struggle in silence — while around 1 in 10 experience anxiety or depression, a large proportion never access the help or support needed and available to them.
In honour of Seamy and the cycling giant he was, I'm planning to cycle from the top to the bottom of Ireland, Malin Head to Mizen Head, across a week this July while raising money for charity.
The cycle will span around 900-980km and track down the Wild Atlantic Way taking in sights including the Hills of Donegal, the rugged Galway coastline, the remoteness of the Burren in Clare and of course the beauty and hills and accents in Kerry and Cork.
I plan to complete the journey solo - just me, my bike and a heap of Mars Bars to keep me going.
I’m raising money for the Aisling Centre in Enniskillen, a free counselling and psychotherapy service that supports hundreds of people each year by providing a safe, non-judgemental, and supportive space for those facing mental health challenges.
If you can spare anything at all, I would be incredibly grateful. Every donation, no matter how small, will go towards a very worthy cause and help support people who need it most.
Thank you
