Hello,

My name is Kya Gordon, and I am currently studying Urban Sociology at Harris-Stowe University. I am raising money to fund my two-month mission/intern trip and project in Nkhata Bay, Malawi (East African Country) this upcoming summer. I will be collaborating with Roots Interns and a non-profit by the name of Butterfly Space, to be a community development intern. I will be helping them run their youth group while i am there and helping with the everyday functions of this group. They have also allowed me to personalize my trip even more, by allowing me to fund, organize, and create a sports program for children in Nkhata Bay. While I'm there, I will be helping get materials to build netball (basketball) hoops, providing sports equipment for the children, providing training for the children, and overall helping to fund a competitive football (soccer) and netball (basketball) league. This project is very important to me because I have had the privilege to play sports my entire life, as many kids do. Sports have positively impacted my life in many ways and overall brought happiness to my life. I want the children, who are unfortunately less privileged than many kids in the United States, to be able to enjoy active extracurricular activities. Something so small, such as access to a basketball court or a pair of tennis shoes, are luxury to some children. I need your help to provide these children with the things we have been blessed to have in life. The funds will be used to provide equipment, materials, and funding necessary for the project, travel expenses, and lodging accommodations. All extra funds will be going to Butterfly Space and their youth program.
