I love being active, leaving my comfort zone, and seeing what is out there!

I'd love to give you an insight into my project, which lies close to my heart.

Let me reach back a little...

After my exams this winter, I decided to use the upcoming vacation to invest my resources differently and volunteer for a meaningful project. So while my friends and family were going to enjoy the snow and hot chocolates by the fire during the winter months, I decided to pack my bags and leave for Kenya.

I wanted to get a raw glimpse into the ways of life in Kenya. This meant moving away from the popular tourist attractions and searching for a more genuine experience. This adventure led me across the country, allowing me to see both the mainland, as well as the coast. Thanks to the research I had done beforehand, I was lucky to spend the last few weeks with a family of six, in a place called Kilifi.

I'd like to introduce you to Stephen and Linnet, a married couple from Kilifi and Watamu, two close coastal provinces in Kenya. Two beautiful people with a vision for their future, the future of their four children, and the community's.

With a lot of dedication, they have built up a school over the last decade, starting from a single classroom to now having a school with classes from grades one to six and two preschool classes.

Welcome to Linda Morning Star School.

I met Stephen on a platform. He hoped to find a volunteer for their school to teach basic first aid. This was very appealing to me, as it's a topic I know about and the idea of teaching some of it to the children at school seemed great.

The experience was memorable and very educational for both the children, as well as for me. After the weeks together, I can guarantee you that the kids could have properly treated your wound or done the Heimlich maneuver and prevented you from choking... ;)

Nevertheless, I realized there was something bigger that could be done.

How is it possible that the communities outside the cities have to live with rationed tap water during the dry seasons, adding up to 6 months a year? Imagine you had running tap water 3 days a week and half of the time, the pressure wasn't enough to even pump the water...

You see, Kenya is a country near both the equator and the Indian Ocean, resulting in a distinct climate. There are two dry and two rainy seasons per year, that alternate respectively. When it rains, it pours... When it's dry though, the heat and absence of water are no joke...

The school had welcomed me so warm-heartedly and the people had been so generous that I felt the urge to do something.

This is where we all come into play! Either by contributing financially to this project or by spreading the word about it, we can help the community of Mtondia, in Kilifi County to have more stable access to water by improving the necessary infrastructure.

These are the things, that will be financed by our project:

Gutters and pipes to collect the rainwater
3* 1000L tanks to store the rainwater
A water purifier
An underground water pipe system
A generator to pump the water out of their well
Extension of the local power grid, for it to reach the village

Ich bin Alessio, ein 20-jähriger Vollzeit Medizinstudent und Teilzeit Traumjäger. ;) Ich liebe es, aktiv zu sein, meine Komfortzone zu verlassen und zu sehen, was es da draußen gibt!

Ich würde euch gerne einen Einblick in mein Projekt geben, das mir sehr am Herzen liegt.

Lasst mich ein wenig zurückgreifen...

Nach meinen Prüfungen in diesem Winter beschloss ich, die anstehenden Ferien zu nutzen, um mich für ein sinnvolles Projekt zu engagieren. Ich beschloss, auf den Schnee und die heiße Schokolade am Kaminfeuer während den Wintermonaten zu verzichten, stattdessen meine Koffer zu packen und nach Kenia zu reisen.

Ich wollte einen authentischen Einblick in die kenianische Lebensweise gewinnen. Das bedeutete, dass ich etwas weg ging von den beliebten Touristenattraktionen und mich auf die Suche nach einer authentischen Erfahrung machte. Dieses Abenteuer führte mich quer durch das Land und ermöglichte es mir, sowohl das Festland als auch die Küste zu sehen. Dank meiner Recherchen im Vorfeld hatte ich das Glück, die letzten Wochen bei einer sechsköpfigen Familie in Kilifi zu verbringen.

Ich möchte euch Stephen und Linnet vorstellen, ein Ehepaar aus Kilifi und Watamu, zwei nahe gelegenen Küstenprovinzen in Kenia. Zwei wunderbare Menschen mit einer Vision für ihre Zukunft, die Zukunft ihrer vier Kinder und die der Gemeinde.

Mit viel Engagement haben sie in den letzten zehn Jahren eine Schule aufgebaut. Angefangen haben sie mit einem einzigen Klassenzimmer, mittlerweile gibt es Klassenzimmer für alle Stufen (erste bis zur sechsten Klasse und zwei Vorschulklassen).

Ich habe Stephen auf einer Onlineplattform getroffen. Er hoffte, einen Freiwilligen für die Schule zu finden, der Erste-Hilfe-Kurse geben konnte. Das gefiel mir sehr gut, da ich mich mit diesem Thema auskenne und die Idee, den Kindern in der Schule etwas davon beizubringen, großartig fand.

Es war eine unvergessliche und sehr lehrreiche Erfahrung, sowohl für die Kinder als auch für mich. Nach den gemeinsamen Wochen kann ich Dir garantieren, dass die Kinder Deine Wunde richtig versorgt oder das Heimlich-Manöver durchführt hätten, um Dich vor dem Ersticken zu retten... ;)

Trotzdem wurde mir klar, dass es etwas Größeres gibt, das getan werden kann.

Wie ist es möglich, dass die Gemeinden außerhalb der Städte während der Trockenzeiten mit rationiertem Leitungswasser leben müssen, was sich auf 6 Monate im Jahr summiert? Stelle Dir vor, Du hättet an drei Tagen pro Woche fließendes Leitungswasser, und die Hälfte der Zeit würde der Druck nicht einmal ausreichen, um das Wasser von den Leitungen bis zu Dir zu pumpen...

An einem der 3 Tage, an denen das Wasser nicht rationiert war : Ein offener Wasserhahn, aber kein Wasser...

Kenia ist ein Land in der Nähe des Äquators und des Indischen Ozeans, was zu einem besonderen Klima führt. Es gibt zwei Trocken- und zwei Regenzeiten pro Jahr, die sich jeweils abwechseln. Wenn es regnet, schüttet es... Wenn es aber trocken ist, sind die Hitze und das Fehlen von Wasser kein Spaß...

Die Schule hatte mich so herzlich aufgenommen und die Menschen waren so großzügig, dass ich den Drang verspürte, etwas zu tun.

Und hier kommen wir alle ins Spiel! Entweder durch einen finanziellen Beitrag zu diesem Projekt oder indem wir es in unseren Kreisen weiterleiten, können wir der Gemeinde Mtondia im Bezirk Kilifi helfen, einen stabileren Zugang zu Wasser zu erhalten, indem wir die notwendige Infrastruktur verbessern.

Dies sind die Dinge, die durch unser Projekt finanziert werden sollen:

Dachrinnen und Rohre zum Sammeln des Regenwassers
3* 1000-Liter-Tanks zur Speicherung des Regenwassers
Ein Wasseraufbereiter
Ein unterirdisches Wasserleitungssystem
Ein Generator, um das Wasser aus dem Brunnen zu pumpen
Ausbau des örtlichen Stromnetzes, damit es das Dorf erreicht

Eines der Schulgebäude: Dachrinnen und ein 1000-Liter-Tank zum Auffangen des Wassers.

Zwei weitere Schulgebäude: Weitere Möglichkeiten zum Sammeln von Regenwasser mit Dachrinnen und Tanks.

Der Brunnen der Schule: Potenzial für eine Pumpe und einen Wasserreiniger zur Verteilung des Wassers.

Ich stehe in ständigem Kontakt mit Stephen und Linnet, und es ist meine Priorität, dass dieses Projekt in sicheren Händen ist. Das kann ich euch garantieren.

Mi piacerebbe darvi un'idea del mio progetto, che mi sta molto a cuore.

Lasciatemi tornare un po' indietro nel tempo...

Dopo gli esami di quest'inverno, ho deciso di sfruttare le vacanze imminenti in modo diverso e fare volontariato per un progetto significativo. Così, mentre i miei amici e la mia famiglia si sarebbero goduti la neve e le cioccolate calde davanti al fuoco durante i mesi invernali, ho deciso di fare le valigie e partire per il Kenya.

Volevo conoscere da vicino lo stile di vita in Kenya. Questo significava allontanarsi dalle famose attrazioni turistiche e cercare un'esperienza più autentica. Questa avventura mi ha portato ad attraversare il paese, permettendomi di vedere sia la terraferma che la costa. Grazie alle ricerche fatte prima di partire, ho avuto la fortuna di trascorrere le ultime settimane con una famiglia di sei, in un luogo chiamato Kilifi.

Vorrei presentarvi Stephen e Linnet, una coppia di Kilifi e Watamu, due province costiere vicine del Kenya. Due belle persone con una visione per il loro futuro, per il futuro dei loro quattro figli e per quello della comunità.

Con molta dedizione, nell'ultimo decennio hanno costruito una scuola, partendo da una sola aula e arrivando oggi ad avere una scuola con classi dalla prima alla sesta elementare e due classi prescolari.

Benvenuti alla Linda Morning Star School.

Ho incontrato Stephen su una piattaforma. Sperava di trovare un volontario per la loro scuola che insegnasse il primo soccorso di base. La cosa mi ha attirato molto, perché è un argomento che conosco e l'idea di insegnarlo ai bambini della scuola mi sembrava ottima.

L'esperienza è stata memorabile e molto istruttiva sia per i bambini che per me. Dopo le settimane trascorse insieme, posso garantirvi che i bambini avrebbero potuto curare adeguatamente le vostre ferite o fare la manovra di Heimlich e impedirvi di soffocare... ;)

Tuttavia, ho capito che c'era qualcosa di più grande che poteva essere fatto.

Com'è possibile che le comunità fuori dalle città debbano vivere con l'acqua del rubinetto razionata durante le stagioni secche, per un totale di 6 mesi all'anno? Immaginate di avere l'acqua del rubinetto corrente per 3 giorni alla settimana e che per metà del tempo la pressione non sia sufficiente a pompare l'acqua...

Uno dei 3 giorni in cui l'acqua non era razionata: Un rubinetto aperto, ma niente acqua...

Il Kenya è un Paese vicino sia all'equatore che all'Oceano Indiano, con un clima particolare. Ci sono due stagioni secche e due piovose all'anno, che si alternano rispettivamente. Quando piove, diluvia... Quando è secco, però, il caldo e l'assenza di acqua non sono uno scherzo...

La scuola mi aveva accolto così calorosamente e la gente era stata così generosa che ho sentito il bisogno di fare qualcosa.

È qui che entriamo in gioco tutti! Contribuendo finanziariamente a questo progetto o diffondendolo, possiamo aiutare la comunità di Mtondia, in provincia di Kilifi, ad avere un accesso più stabile all'acqua, migliorando le infrastrutture necessarie.
