Hi Friends!
Meghan and Clay Collum here. Firstly, we would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being here and reading our story. We both tend to keep our private life...well, private. Sharing isn't always easy when it's in regard to pure, repeated heartbreak.
So here we go, we'll try to keep it short.
Here's our story;
Clay and I met in high-school and while we only hung out with the same group of friends, it wasn't until a few years after graduation we started dating. We were young and had the time of our lives but began the "not so fun" adult life and our paths took us separate ways. Clay ended up moving a few hours away but we managed to still keep in contact.
In 2010, Clay and I reconnected and he ended up moving back to Dallas. And the best part was...he moved in with me!
Fast forward a few years. Clay and I married in 2015. From that very moment we started to try for our family. We both always knew we were made to be parents and couldn't wait another day for the best news of our lives. Unfortunately, life isn't always fair. Clay and I tried for our family for 2 years with repeated heartbreak. We realized then we needed to see doctors to figure out if this was in fact the dreaded word, "infertility".
In 2018, Clay and I were diagnosed with unexplained infertility. BUT, that wasn't going to stop us! We began to research what our options would be moving forward. We both decided IUI would be the best first step. For those who are not familiar, IUI is a reasonably priced procedure, where the sperm is placed directly into the uterus using a small catheter. Unfortunately, those procedures failed. And this is where frustration and defeat began to set in. Clay and I decided we needed a break. A break from the constant appointments, medication, shots, schedules, etc. We remained hopeful but focused on it less and more on us.
We decided in 2021 we were ready again! And quite honestly, running out of time. This time we agreed, Go Big or Go Home. So here we are today...Clay and I have began the IVF process.
IVF or In vitro fertilisation is a process of fertilisation where an egg is combined with sperm in vitro. The process involves monitoring and stimulating a woman's ovulatory process, removing an ovum or ova from their ovaries and letting sperm fertilise them in a culture medium in a laboratory. IVF is very expensive and unfortunately not covered by insurance.
This is where, first and foremost we are asking for prayers and good vibes as we continue to take the steps to grow our dream family. Maybe send a few extra prayers Clay's way while he deals with me and all the added hormones.
Sadly, we are in a place like SO many others and need to ask for financial help for our BIG dream. Which isn't easy for us. So, thank you for taking the time to read about our journey and we invite you all to join us on the ride of a lifetime!
If you are able to donate to our IVF fund we would be extremely grateful. If you aren’t able to donate we would appreciate all your prayers and positive thoughts. Lord knows we will need them.
We are eternally grateful for every one of you and love you from the bottom of our hearts.
Love always,
The Collums
