Making Memories Fund for Mark Hayward + Family
Donation protected
Thank you for taking the time to read this fundraiser. I am Mark's brother-in-law and I am raising money for Mark and his family.
Let me tell you what has happened...
Mark is a 36 year old teacher, husband and father to two beautiful girls, Ivy aged 4 and Trudy who is just 3 months old.

What I can tell you about Mark is that he is an inspiring example of how to be a good parent. He is a loving and attentive role-model, and everything he does is for his family.

A few months ago Mark noticed that he was having trouble coordinating his foot, after the GP noticed the reflex in his foot was not typical, Kate took him to hospital for a CT scan on November 1st. This revealed what looked like a stroke. The doctors wanted a more detailed MRI but needed to wait until after the weekend.
Unfortunately, by the time the doctors arrived to give the results of the MRI Kate had gone home to put the children to bed.
It was at this point, alone in hospital, that a specialist approached Mark to inform him that in fact he had a "low grade glioma". Despite, sounding relatively benign, what we know from such tumours is that they are fatal. Even if the majority of the tumour can be removed, eventually it will return and it will kill him, it is just a matter of time.
Currently his prognosis is that the tumour will progress to its aggressive and fatal form within 5-10 years.
As gliomas grow, they press into the brain which eventually stops the affected area of the brain functioning properly. Surgeons will be able to remove the bulk of the tumour, and Mark may also need radiation therapy to kill off remaining cells. Unfortunately, as a side-effect of all of these things Mark's brain will be affected which can lead to all kinds of side-effects.
His main priority outside of fighting the illness is to make sure his two young daughters don't just remember him as being sick, but have lasting, meaningful and happy memories of shared experiences.
The goal of this fundraiser is to make it possible for Mark and Kate to create these memories with their two girls. And most of all for Mark to be able to realise his dream to take Ivy and Trudy to Disneyland.
Donating to this fundraiser will help ensure that when Ivy and Trudy have grown up they will have many beautiful memories of experiences they shared with their father. Any donation you can make is deeply appreciated. It is also a big help if you can share/email this to anyone who might want to chip in.

Thank you.
Ben
