Making memories for Kai! Brain Tumour Warrior!
Donation protected
Hi everyone, my name is Kim Morgan and i'm trying to raise as much money as possible for a very brave and resillient boy that is very close to my heart. His name is Kai.
I climbed Ben Nevis on the 24th September, along with my friend Stevie McGarry, to raise money and now it has been decided to extend this fund as it continues to grow with single donations from people and from other fundraising events that have been organised for Kai!
Kai is my best friend's son that has been in my life for 7 years now and watching him grow up into the young man he is has been beautiful. However the last 2 years he has been going through a battle that has been kept private but now its time to share his brave journey.
In July 2021 at the age of 10 Kai began vomiting. After weeks of trips to A&E he was diagnosed with a WNT Medullablastoma brain tumor in his cerebellum. Kai underwent a 9 hour surgery to remove it and spent the next 6 weeks at Birmingham Childrens Hospital recovering. He required speech and language therapy, physiotherapy and occupational therapy input due to the effects of surgery.
Over the following year Kai spent 6 weeks in Manchester receiving proton beam radiotherapy, followed by 6 months of intense chemotherapy and spent a considerable amount of time in hospital for blood transfusions and infections. Finally Kai completed his treatment and got to ring the bell in July 2022 and he had the all clear In Aug 2022.
Sadly 3 months later in November 2022 a routine MRI scan showed new tumor growth at the front of his brain. A week before Christmas Kai had another lengthy surgery to remove the growth and began the gruelling treatment regieme of radiotherapy and chemotherapy again. It was such a heartbreaking time.
Throughout all of this Kai has shown nothing but bravery and resillience. Kai is the kindest, most sweetest young boy you could ever meet and still now puts others before himself and receiving glowing reports from school for helping his peers through their own struggles. Also along with his primary school he helped raise over £5000 to give back to the hospitals that are treating him.
I truly believe he is an Angel on earth.
Kai has continued to attend school as he loves being around his friends, enjoys learning and desires to keep his life as normal as possible...yes he's not used it as an excuse to be off school!! That deserves an award for itself!
Kai has a passon for gaming, loves football (Man City being his favourite team) and catching Pokemon.
The other side to this story is Kai's mom Leanne my best friend, actually my sister. She is an amazing nurse and has continued to care for patients whilst going through the most difficult time of her life. It breaks my heart to see them going through all this...nobody deserves this pain. To be torn between going to work for financial reasons or spending all her time with Kai is a decision no parent should make. The government needs to give more support for families facing this heartbraking situation.
They have tried to keep their battle private and has been dealt with behind the scenes but now I feel the time is right, with permission, to raise awareness of Kai's brave story and to raise money so that Kai can have some amazing opportunities and create some happy memories whilst he is having treatment.
Now Kai is entering 3 years of treatment any support given will hopefully take the financial burden off his family so they can spend as much time with him during this 3rd year without the worry of anything else.
Please help.
