Making Haselbury Plucknett's Footpaths Safer

We are the lead farm in Haselbury Plucknett and as contributors to the village traffic, we are concerned about the lack of footpaths in the village and the obvious risks posed

to pedestrians.

Bakers Farms have initiated a project which removes pedestrians from the virtual footpath to a hard surfaced footpath which runs entirely through the farms property. The

route of this footpath is largely along a public right of way but the surface needs to be upgraded to make it accessible for all types of pedestrians including pushchairs and

wheelchairs.

Bakers Farms propose to undertake the construction of this footpath using existing man power and equipment but the materials needed for construction have been calculated

at £20.000.

What are the main aims and objectives of the organisation?

To improve the safety of pedestrians.

To create an alternative pedestrian route from the virtual footpath.

To reduce the risks to children walking to and from school.

How many people will benefit from this fund?

All pedestrians using the village

How will the people of the community benefit from this project?

Improved safety for all pedestrians.

A new accessible rural footpath in a rural setting.

The money will be spent:

Construction Materials for footpath only.

This includes but is not limited to hardcore, surfacing materials, post and rail fencing, new accessible gates.

Evidence of the need for this:

1 ‐ There have been multiple reports of pedestrians being struck by wingmirrors whilst on the virtual footpath.

2 ‐ In the past 2 years there have been 5 known incidents of parked vehicles being stuck by moving vehicles on North Street.

3 ‐ In 2022 the school railings were demolished by a moving vehicle.

4 ‐ The community speed watch team consistently report a high number of vehicles exceeding the speed limit outside of the school during times when children are arriving and

departing.

How we will evaluate the project?

1 ‐ A reduction in the number of near misses.

2 ‐ An increased sense of pedestrian road safety in the community.
