Make-a-Home Fundraiser

Hi, my name is Audrey Lamb and I'm fundraising for the Make-a-Home program through a charitable organization in Seattle called Mary's Place for my mitzvah project. A mitzvah project is part of my Bat Mitzvah journey and teaches me about the importance of supporting charitable causes and giving back to my community.

The Make-a-Home program helps families who have a new house or apartment but lack the funds to furnish it. I decided on Make-a-Home for my mitzvah project because I go to school in Seattle, and I’m saddened by the number of homeless people. I want to help people, especially kids, who want to get off the streets and are less fortunate than me.

My goal is to collect money and donations so I will be able to give a family a fully furnished home. The family I'm working with is a single mom, Rachel, who escaped domestic violence, with her 13-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son. This family has been homeless for five years and is finally moving into a permanent home. I picked this family because they have gone through so much and I want to help a girl my age.

I met with the family, and I created a list of items that they need for their home. The family lives in a small one-bedroom apartment so I selected furnishings that will fit in their home. This GoFundMe is a way to raise money to purchase items for this family. Unfortunately, Make-a-Home does not have a way to support tax deductions and company matching programs for funds or new items.
