Help Make a Crafter’s Dream Come True

I want to tell you about someone I love, her name is Vicki and she has been my Cleaning Lady for the last five years. And in March of this year, she wasn’t doing well, so I moved her in with me. And she does some cleaning for me in exchange for living for here for free.

She’s one of the most creative, thoughtful, crafty humans I know. She makes things with her hands, her heart, and whatever she can afford. Crafting isn’t a hobby for her—it’s joy, regulation, expression, and connection.

Here’s the part that stopped me in my tracks:

She’s in her 50s and has never once been to Hobby Lobby, Michaels, or At Home—the very stores she’s dreamed about her whole life. She watches other women on YouTube as they tour these stores and she’s always wanted to go.

Because of narcolepsy, she doesn’t drive. Because of finances, she’s always had to make do with what she could order online or find at the dollar store. She’s never gotten to wander aisles, touch textures, get inspired, or just play.

When I asked her what she wanted for her birthday, she said, “Honestly? I’d love to just go to those stores someday.”

So that’s what we’re doing.

I’m taking her shopping for her birthday—no rushing, no stress, just joy. The goal is to raise $1,000 so I can give her gift cards to her favorite stores and let her experience something many of us take for granted.

This isn’t about charity.

It’s about restoring joy, honoring creativity, and reminding someone that her life matters and her dreams aren’t silly or too late.
