Make Our Tiny Tots A Trio!
Donation protected
The short story? We have embryos from a previous IVF cycle. Medically I can only carry one more child. To give us the greatest possible chance of transferring a good, normal embryo this last time, we need to screen all of our remaining embryos to determine which of them, if any, are chromosomally normal. This process is called Pre-implantation Genetic Screening (PGS). It is miraculous, expensive, and our last chance.
This is where YOU come in! Make our tiny tots a trio! Donate to screen the embryos. You are our battle axes in defeating infertility once and for all!
The sweet, mushy story...
Our journey to building a family started like any other (queue Marvin Gaye!), but it certainly didn't continue that way. It was quite a terrible blow to learn we were infertile. After struggling with infertility for years, we received hope that we could be blessed with children of our own through In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF).
Our first attempt at IVF contributed to a of egg vitrification. It was designed to provide a better way to freeze a woman's eggs, particularly for patients diagnosed with cancer and seeking fertility preservation. It had incredible success! Our first spirited daughter joined us in 2012, making her the first ever frozen egg resulting in a live birth in San Diego County.
Two embryos remaining from that cycle were frozen to expand our family later. When the time came, we began to prepare to transfer those remaining embryos. Unfortunately, both embryos, during two separate transfers, did not result in pregnancy. It was a devistating loss, twice. We decided to do another IVF cycle, but had no idea that this cycle was going to bring out the worst version of myself. EVER. I was a walking hormonal time-bomb with a strong-willed two year old.
After the longest, most agonizing two months of my life (and my family's lives), we had a much greater successful cycle. The first embryo transfer implanted and again we were blessed with another baby girl. We felt like we had not only won the battle against infertility, but we ceratinly were going to win the war! We have a couple embryos left from our second cycle and we were on our way to a building a large family. (Insert large boulder being dropped in your road!)
Of course after good news, like hearing your baby girl cry her first breath of life, you get the bad news. While being sewn back together on the table from my second cesarean delivery, I was told my uterine wall was "paperthin" by my doctor and she said this was something to take into consideration for future pregnancies, or not to do any at all. Not my best moment, literally exposed from top to bottom with pregnancy/nursing hormones surging through my body, to hear this news. All I heard was "YOU CAN NEVER HAVE ANOTHER BABY!" Yes, queue the water works.
After further research, we are attempting one more pregnancy. Just one, but to give us the greatest possible chance of transferring a good, normal embryo this last time, we need to screen all of our remaining embryos to determine which of them, if any, are chromosomally normal. This process is called Pre-implantation Genetic Screening (PGS) . It is miraculous, expensive, and our last chance.
