Make Space for Girls - pilot fundraiser

Donation protected
Make Space for Girls is a brand new charity (reg no 1193772) who are campaigning for parks and public spaces to be designed for the needs of teenage girls.

We are raising money for a pilot, in which we will work with a group of teenage girls to find out how they use their local parks and public spaces, and what they would really want to find there.  We'll be working with play experts, planners and architects to find some new answers.  The pilot and its designs will be used as a template for work all across the country, and to highlight how much things need to change.

Parks, play equipment and public spaces for older children and teenagers are currently designed with boys in mind. Provision is almost entirely in terms of skate parks, BMX tracks, football pitches and MUGAs.

Girls are never asked what they might want and most councils have spent more time and money on facilities for dog waste than they have for teenage girls.  Yet providing for girls is a legal requirement under the Equality Act 2010.  So why isn't it happening?
