My name is Adriana. I lost my son Daniel to a drug-related overdose at a music festival in 2012. Since then, I've been fighting to make pill testing a reality. I started a Change.org petition which now has over 90,000 signatures.
I started this petition because I don't want any families to go through what I have been through these last seven years. But families are still losing their loved ones: in the last few months, we've seen five young people lose their lives at music festivals. Now, it seems some politicians are finally listening to us about pill testing.
I've just been invited to deliver my petition to NSW Parliament this week. Senior NSW Labor politicians will accept my petition and hear my story, and it is my hope that they will start to understand why pill testing is so important. NSW Opposition Leader Michael Daley has already agreed to consider pill testing, and hold a drug summit if they are elected. That's a lot better than what the current NSW Government under Gladys Berejiklian has offered.
Many of you chipped in last year to get to Canberra to deliver my petition to federal MPs and Senators. Now I need your help to get to Sydney. Can you chip in and help me with the cost of flights and accommodation?
With your support, I can get to Sydney and we can convince these politicians to start listening to the experts. Experts like the AMA and drug policy experts, but also experts like me and the growing number of families whose lives will never be the same again after losing their kids this way. Families that just want to help other young people stay as safe as possible. Anything you can donate will be gratefully accepted.
Any money raised over and above my target will be used to fund further travel related to my campaign. My mission is to make pill testing a reality around Australia.
