Make Kevin Shea’s Day!

Donation protected
Hi I’m Tera McIntosh, an executive volunteer at Misfit Mountain Animal Rescue and I’m writing about our dear friend Kevin. If you don’t know Kevin Shea you are missing out! He is one part tie dye and two parts love! A northerner on an adventure stopped by our rescue campground 8 months ago and we couldn’t have hit a bigger jackpot! If you’ve stopped by the rescue you’ve probably seen his smiley face greeting you. This guy has been the property and animal care manager for the last 8 months. He builds pig pens, fences, dog lots, and is the fixer of many things. Along with his property duties he helps feed the chickens, the pigs, the dogs, the cats and even fosters them in his own little place on site 1. When he helps us out at the rescue this allows us to do things like fundraisers, make videos, transport animals, check in with fosters, updates our websites and accounts, etc., which is so hopeful because we both work full time jobs.

You’ve probably seen us post about his special relationship with Mabel the Pig. When nights got cold Kevin brought Mabel inside to cuddle with Bodhi (his pup) and soon they were three peas in a pod. When we recently got a few pups from a hoarding case that were scared of everything-Kevin jumped right in and fostered them in his own little camper on Site 1.

From animal transports, to cutting grass, to oil changes-Kevin is always there for us, and many others too! He’s always helping out with jumper cables, to gifts, to words of kindness, to stuck cars, overgrown hedges, or broken garage doors. Kevin gives his time freely.

As we all know those that are the helpers are often the humble forgetters of selves. And so while Kevin fills so many of our cups up today we want to fill his cup up!

Kevin and the executive team had a sit down conversation about the future of Misfit Mountain animal rescue and how we don’t wanna do it without him! But with that comes the need to update Kevin’s camper so that his home remains efficient, safe, sustainable, and cozy. As you can imagine, fostering pigs and dogs can have a bit of wear and tear on the inside! So we want to Update Kevin’s space to be cozy for his meditations and leadership mentoring as well as efficient for the colder months. Our hope is to raise $2,500 to 3,000 to surprise Kevin with a full make over! From new flooring (out with the rug), to some new appliances, to paint and cool wall paper, to a new desk and fixed cabinets, a new awning, insulation, and roof sealant. All funds will go toward the rehabbing of Kevin’s camper to be the living quarters of our famously kind property and animal care manager.

Also. Cool tag for sponsors like Carpet Barn, Outlaw Acres, and Jordan Stepansky-Realtor who have graciously offered to help or donate their products, skills, and time to make this rehab possible.

So Kevin will be vacating his camper the week of July 7-14th and we will be working on it while he’s pent up in the clubhouse. All are welcome to join us to volunteer rehabbing the 7-9th weekend. From his Sterling friends, to Upper Mass friends, to his Mountain friends. Stop by and lend a hand. We will share all updates on this go fund me thread!
