A series of unfortunate events and circumstances has plagued a small Haitian community neighboring our facility, Focused Movement Academy (FMA) , which, is an obstacle course racing gym with a focus on empowering youth through mindset and exercise.
Most recently, in May, three young kids were ran over and killed by a drunk driver while walking to a bus stop on their way to a soccer game. They were close friends with three of our high school athletes that are part of our gym.
While at the service (News coverage) and in conversation with one of our athletes that was close with the victims, we commented:
'Ahrydson, this is tragic.. this happened in our backyard.. we need to do something about this.'
His reaction, without hesitation and filled with emotion was:
'I'm going to do something about this. This is my mission coach.'
We replied:
'We'll make it our mission too then... and we'll get behind you on this'.
Through our Warrior Focus Foundation, we are going to help Ahrydson, Kesnel and Andy, kids from the Little Haiti Community and members of our obstacle course racing team, fundraise for:
- Affected Families in need
- Youth Sport Teams in Little Haiti
- Youth Organizations in Little Haiti
All of this so that young children have healthy developmental outlets, platforms and activities that will keep them off the street and away from violence as well as other deteriorating paths.
We, along with Ahrydson, will participate in Spartan Races across the US fundraising and advocating against drunk driving, violence and disregard affecting kids in this community.
This is to serve as pillar and pilot for our foundation to inspire similar collaborations throughout other communities in need as there are more than we can count.
