Make Ellie Smile Again

Donation protected

This is a story about my amazing, kind and caring 8 year old daughter Ellie-Maie and
her best friend DJ.

Ellie is an only child who for the duration of her 8 years had never had a real pet, but
Ellie deserved a pet to give her love and
attention to, as I have to her, so on the 3rd August 2019 Ellie was introduced to her
new best friend who she named DJ.

As you can see from the picture she was
made up and he was just as content being
with her ❤️ They formed a bond straight
away and as a single parent this gave me
comfort knowing he would always be by
her side.

They did everything together, they shared
teddies;

They shared her love of playing minecraft
on her phone and watching Kids YouTube
together until they fell asleep

He was the perfect companion for my little
girl and for the first time in 8 years she was so content, she was thriving and she said
the best part of her day is when she goes to sleep because DJ comes and sleeps on her bed with her, he wakes her up with kisses
so she wakes in a happy mood ready to
start the day, and if I ever closed Ellie’s
door at night he would sleep right outside waiting for her to wake.

As a parent all you want is to make your
child happy, but DJ filled a piece of her that I couldn’t, the piece that you only get from a bond with a pet, a pet she’d never had
before, our forever cat.

He wasn’t just loving and playful with Ellie
but also to everyone who met him, he
really was the perfect pet.

DJ got out!!

We looked everywhere from 7am in the
morning  until Ellie had to go to school.

Then I came back looking for him, calling
his name , shaking his biscuits, along with
my sister, my mum who has limited mobility and some friends, all whom had formed a
little bond with DJ and knew how much he meant to Ellie.

I picked Ellie up from school whilst my
mum and friends continued to search for
DJ, Ellie had been so worried about her
little DJ she’d barely eaten all day as she
refused breakfast because she wanted to
look for her best friend, usually I would
insist but I could see she was as worried as I was, so I thought it would help if I took
Ellie and a friend to McDonalds as an after school treat, my sister and niece joined us
and I thought I would at least see her eat
something.

We hadn’t been sat down long when my
phone rang, it was my mum, she said DJ
had been found but he was hurt and I
should get home straight away, not
knowing how bad it was or what had
happened I didn’t say anything to Ellie, I
told my sister that I had to go and
asked if
she was ok with Ellie and her friend, she
said yes and I left.

On my way home I phoned the vets where DJ was registered and let them know he’d
been injured, they were amazing, they said no problem, they’ll have the surgery ready and to just get him there as soon as
possible.

I walked upto my house, the door was open
and friends and neighbours were gathered
around, my mum was inside in the hallway and our beautiful DJ was wrapped in his
blanket lay motionless on the floor, I
stroked him and at that moment I realised he wasn’t breathing, I burst into tears,
asking what happened, where he was
found and the whole time wondering how
on earth am I going to tell Ellie that her
best friend is dead.

My sister brought Ellie back and before she saw DJ I knelt down, tears in my eyes and I said Ellie, princess, I’m so sorry but DJ has died and we just cried, right there in the
hallway, DJ had been moved to the Kitchen, I asked Ellie if she wanted to see him, hold him and say goodbye and she said yes.

He just looked asleep

DJ had heard our calls and was on his way
home, he was less than 3 metres from our
front door when a car had hit him on his
left side and driven away, leaving him
fighting for his life at the side of the road,
by the time he was found he was already
almost dead.

I know no kitten or cat will ever replace DJ but having seen the bond and love my
daughter had with him, well I just want to
see that again, my daughter is missing
something again, I can tell and I want to see her smiling again.

I want to get her another kitten, and I want the amenities (catio) to be able to ensure that we can keep him safe whilst still giving him access to fresh air, but I’m a single mum and with Xmas around the corner I cannot give her that right now, so I need your help.

Telling my daughter was the hardest thing
I’ve ever had to do Please, please, please
help me give my daughter her spark back.

 Thank you
