Help My Dad Spend His Final Days in Thailand
Hi, my name is Donnie, and I’m reaching out with love, humility, and hope. My father, Don Schwartz, has been through the hardest year of his life — and his only wish now is to spend his final days in the place that has always brought him peace and joy: Thailand.
If you know me, you know how close my dad and I are. He’s my world, my hero, and my best friend.
⸻
My Dad’s Journey
This past year, my dad spent nearly four months in the hospital battling serious health issues. The medical costs were overwhelming — and while he was still in the hospital, the insurance plan he had faithfully carried since 1983 was changed without notice. By the time we discovered what happened, it was too late to reenroll.
Now, while Medicare helps with some things, he falls just $50 over the income limit to qualify for prescription or visit assistance. His medications alone cost nearly $1,900 each month, leaving him with only about $250 to live on.
I’m his only child, and I’ve become his full-time caretaker. It’s an honor to be with him during this time, but it’s also meant putting everything else — including my business and time with my daughter, Kennedi — on hold. Missing her games, school events, and birthdays has been incredibly hard, but my dad needs me right now.
⸻
Why Thailand?
If you’ve ever met my dad, you’ve probably heard him talk about Thailand. It’s his happy place — a country he loves deeply and where he’s always found peace and joy. His biggest wish is to return there one last time.
Recently, his doctors gave him the green light to travel. His heart is working at about 55%, and while the long flight will be tough, this may be the only chance we have to make his dream come true.
During his hospital stay, doctors also found masses in his lung, likely cancer. After everything his body has endured, we’ve decided against invasive tests or aggressive treatments. Instead, we’re focusing on comfort, peace, and making memories together.
The truth is, if my dad makes it to Thailand, he may not be strong enough to return. I plan to stay by his side for at least two months — and for however long he needs me after that.
⸻
Our Goal
We are hoping to raise $15,000 to cover:
✈️ Flights for my dad and me
Modest accommodations for two months
His medications abroad
Basic living expenses
Every dollar brings us closer to honoring my dad’s final wish. And if you can’t give financially, simply sharing this campaign means the world to us.
⸻
From My Heart
This is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do — asking for help. But I know with all my heart that if I don’t try everything possible to get my dad to Thailand, I’ll regret it forever.
Thank you for reading, sharing, and supporting in any way you can. No amount is too small — every act of kindness brings peace and dignity to my dad’s final chapter.
With love and gratitude,
Donnie & Don Schwartz
