Help Us Create a Magical Christmas Balloon Display for Kids in Hospital
Help us bring Christmas magic to kids in hospital! After donating our upcycled Halloween come Christmas display to the Coffs Harbour children’s ward, we’re raising funds to create a brand-new balloon installation, made from plant-based materials, built by our neurodiverse team, and designed just for the kids this Christmas.
Help Us Create a Magical Christmas Balloon Display for Kids in Hospital
In the lead-up to Halloween, Toormina Gardens was filled with balloon magic, a friendly mummy, a potion-brewing witch, a spooky talking tree, and a giant spider, all made from plant-based latex balloons.
After Halloween, instead of letting it go to waste, I carefully packed it down and donated it to the Coffs Harbour Health Campus children’s ward, transforming it into a Christmas tree made from the same balloons:
The Witch’s dress became the Christmas tree.
The Cauldrons potions became the baubles.
The Mummy became the angel on top
✨ The colourful floor balloons became gifts.
The autumn tree became the trunk and pot.
Now the kids have something bright and full of life in their ward a recycled burst of joy to carry them into the holidays.

Request from a Nurse in the Coffs kids ward
A few weeks ago, one of the nurses asked me something that stuck with me:
“Do you think you could make Santa and his reindeer flying through the ward this Christmas?”
I’d love to. Imagine Santa soaring through the ceiling, reindeer mid-flight, and the children looking up in wonder!
To make it happen, I need your help.
Where Your Donation Goes
Your contribution will help fund:
- Fresh, plant-based balloons and eco-friendly materials
- Fair wages for my neurodiverse balloon artists
- Transport, setup, and recycling costs
All materials are reused or recycled through TerraCycle, keeping our creations zero-plastic and planet-friendly.

HooRai Balloons is a small, for-profit local business based in Coffs Harbour.
While we operate commercially, a big part of our mission is community, providing paid, inclusive employment for neurodiverse young people, and giving back through donated displays like this one.
Your donation doesn’t go to a charity, it goes directly to supporting our team’s time, materials, and the joy we bring to others through our craft.
We’ve already built and donated incredible displays before for example an underwater world with a sea turtle and oyster, a butterfly, banana and turtle that was part of the CODA opening celebrations, and now a repurposed Halloween tree. With your help, we can create something truly new this Christmas, a magical moment for kids who need it most.

Contributes to the cost of recycling the balloons at the end. All balloons are plant-based latex and will be recycled using TerraCycle who turns our balloons into rubber matting, like that which is found in childrens playgrounds.

And I'll let you influence what we include in the display. Whether that's a Rainbow Dinosaur as one of the animals that pulls Santas Sleigh, or the colour of the brand new Christmas tree we install.

Every dollar raised will help us bring a little more magic to the children’s ward this Christmas. ✨
Even a small amount helps — with any support, the hospital will still receive something special and made with love.
But our goal is $2,500, which will allow me to:
Give my neurodiverse team meaningful, paid hours in the lead-up to Christmas
Cover materials for a full-scale installation (possibly Santa and his reindeer flying through the ward!)
Handle transport, setup, and recycling — keeping it fully eco-friendly and plant-based
Once we reach $2,500, I’ll close the fundraiser and get to work bringing it all to life.
