Some of you already know about Adam’s recent medical adventures. He was diagnosed with RCP-D (Retrograde Cricopharyngeal Dysfunction), which, in plain English, means… he can’t burp!



It sounds funny (and a bit odd) since it’s something most of us do without even thinking – and let’s be honest, what a relief it is when we do. But not being able to burp comes with some pretty unpleasant side effects: painful bloating, chest pain, relentless flatulence (!) and even social anxiety.

The only treatment – which unfortunately isn’t covered by health insurance – is a direct oesophagoscopy with a botulinum toxin injection into the cricopharyngeus muscle. In short: Botox to the throat.

Adam had the procedure back in May. It brought a few small, temporary improvements, but sadly didn’t have the lasting results we'd hoped for. The doctor has now confirmed he’ll need a second go in September. Again, the costs won’t be covered by health insurance.
